Actually, there is a common subject linking the entire process of life in the real world of people: seeking an object for communicating all one’s life.

But this process always first gradually realizes the action from visual to perceive gradually from the view of eyes.

 Looking is actually the first process psychologically most important to the people at the beginning, for judgment toward human society. Through looking, the people are seeking what they want and what they will want, how to get and the significance of their existence from the reality. Born in Heilongjiang, currently living in Shanghai and studying at the Traditional Chinese Painting Department of Shanghai University for postgraduate course tutored by Professor Han Feng, the series works of young artist Cui Tong have verified the aforementioned exposition from the author on the significance of human seeking.

As for the original meaning of paintings, literally Cui Tong has cast away a common disease to many artists when they are first involved in creation of serial subjects: verbosity.

The structure of his works is simple and appropriate, in other words, the artist has found a proper expression manner suitable to his own personality since the very beginning. While this manner just basically fixes his judgment on society and culture and knowledge after recognition of knowledge since he has struggling in Shanghai for more than ten years with some achievements and has acquired a thorough and profound understanding in life, with a psychological correlation. Therefore, the creations of Cui Tong are self and coming from his heart, rather than fussing like some hypochondriac artists complaining about things unrelated to their living state.

Ink saving is an issue discussed and practised by the Chinese artists all their life. But the problem is our artists don’t really understand why should they save inks until their death. They are always freely roaming on paper or are indulged in the subtle funs of ink while are ignoring that language is for expressing thoughts rather than serving funs. Otherwise, whatever subtle or wonderful language it is, it’s utmost a craftsman behavior, rather than the creation behavior of substantial meaning.

Now artist Cui Tong is working on series works creations, as for a young artist understanding what language is and what painting is, and understanding how to save ink and have calmly considered the meaning and value of life, who is determined to express and illustrate his own opinions with a painting brush toward the world all his life, we have the reason to believe that he will employ painting language to express his more and more profound considerations toward the phenomena in the world.

Meanwhile, we must see that the young artist Cui Tong is providing more subtle and wonderful visual banquets to us from now on.
