"缱绻——2019芳草地艺术节"已在芳草地画廊与大家见面，这个新鲜的展览汇集了六位各具特色的艺术家，为观众呈现了一场新旧语言、多维方式，跨时代性的缱绻互通的当代艺术展览。芳草地画廊邀请艺术家孙静分享她的艺术感悟。

"Qian Quan—2019 Parkview Green Art Festival" is currently on show at Parkview Green Art. This fresh and vibrant exhibition brings together six artists to present a multi- dimensional artistic praxis combining old and new languages. Today artist Sun Jing will share her artistic conception.

"缱绻"中的传统与现代

 Tradition and modernity in "Qian Quan"

这次展览的主题是 "缱绻"，可以从很多方面来理解。

The theme of this exhibition is "Qian Quan ", a word that has many different interpretations. 

比如传统和现代，传统是我们的立身根本，但是和古人所处的人文环境比，传统文化的呈现形态已经变得很不一样了。对于我个人而言，在文化意识觉醒时，我面对的已经是多元文化浪潮的影响，传统文化只是其中的一支。

Tradition and modernity is one of the nuances of the word qianquan. Tradition is the foundation of civilization, however with the development and the historical progress the traditional culture has undergone many transformations. I think that personally I am subject to the influence of a very multifaceted spectrum of cultural movements and traditional culture is just one aspect of it.

我作品的语言体系最初是源于对东方美学的喜爱，然后在此基础上慢慢构建起来，起初我非常喜欢波斯细密画和日本浮世绘，这类装饰意味强烈的画面很打动我，之后我又被宋代绘画的内敛气质和理性美所折服。

The language system of my work originates from my interest in oriental aesthetics. At first, I was interested in Persian miniature paintings and Japanese ukiyo-e paintings. This kind of artistic technique and decorative elements touched me a lot. Later on, I was fascinated by the intimate character and the rational beauty of Song Dynasty painting.

This Painting is an important work of the ukiyo-e painter Katsushika Hokusai in his later years.Depicting the scenery of Mount Fuji . 

很多年前我有幸在敦煌研学过壁画，我认为像敦煌壁画这样的有着强大内源的文化遗产值得被保留并且被欣赏，它是养分的输出地，当然并不是说它值得我去完完全全的变成它。

Many years ago, I had the privilege of studying murals in Dunhuang. I think that a cultural heritage with a strong connotation like the Dunhuang murals deserves to be preserved and appreciated. It is a cultural treasure and we should not modify it.

我原本是设计专业出身的，所以对理性排布的思维会更敏锐，灵感迸发的激情创作永远不可能属于我，绘画于我的任务是不断去改进完善属于自己的绘画程式，达到自我认同的完满。我觉得一个艺术家创作的轨迹理所应当是不断发生变化的，因为知识结构、观念和生活阅历都在成长变化，作品是这些综合的体现，当然也会随之改变。

I was originally a professional designer, so I am more sensitive to rational organization of visual elements. The emotional approach in the artistic creation is not a characteristic of my work. For me to paint it means to constantly improve the artistic technique and to achieve progressively an affirmation of self-identity. I think that the path of an artist's creation should be constantly changing, reflecting the changes knowledge, ideas and life experience. The work is a comprehensive manifestation of these, elements and it reflects their changes.

Sun Jing , a professional designer, 

has a quiet and tranquil temperament.

 In her works, images such a cat, girl, a sparrow  

are presented as decorative elements of everyday life.

在我这一系列作品形成初期，我一直很困扰自己的绘画方式受卡通动漫的影响太多，直到后来有一天，我明白过来创作的前提是要接受自己，一个属于自己的风格首先要建立在对自己坦诚和接纳的基础之上。当你时刻处在思考自己画面需求的状态时，老天会在一些很平凡的日常中给你顿悟的契机。

In the early days of my series, I was always troubled by the way my paintings were influenced by cartoons. Until someday, I realized that the premise of creating is to accept how we are. A personal style must first be established on the basis of being honest with oneself. When you are focus on thinking about your needs for the artistic creation, somehow you will find enlightenment in some elements of the everyday life.

Shiina Ringo , a Japanese singer,

has written about the queen of kabuki town. 

With her unique musical style and vocals, bold shapes

 (wearing kimonos, holding the guitar, singing with rolling eyes) and straightforward lyrics, she quickly rolled up a whirlwind against mainstream music in Japan.

休息的时候看了一则我特别喜欢的日本流行乐歌手椎名林檎的采访，发现她是个会面不改色地推翻自己之前说过的话的人，我觉得她很可爱。

During the break, I saw an interview with Shiina Ringo, a Japanese pop singer I liked. I have realized that she often contradicts herself. I think she is very cute.

后来仔细琢磨了一下，其实为什么要拘泥于这些呢，一种情况是到了适合的时候抛弃不适合自己的，推翻之前建立的束缚，试着把一个题材或母题向内不断深挖等等这些想法都没有什么不可以的，我也不觉得有高低之分，关键是看看清自己到底要的是什么，拘泥于某种题材，树立符号来宣扬自己是把自己陷于桎梏的行为，绕在里面出不来是很不值得的。

 Later on, I wondered if I should stick to it. I don’t think there is anything wrong with it or any difference between high and low. The key is to see what you want. However, to stick to a certain theme, to identify yourself with a symbol which becomes a branding identity is not worthy.

我自己在初期选材用很多女性形象，结果很多人误以为画女性形象是我的标签，我承认我偏好这个题材，但我从来不想被题材禁锢、从来不满足于这些内容，她们只是创作需要的材料而已，只要利于表现画面当下的主题就够了。有人认为小尺幅也是我的特点，但是我想说，这不是我的鲜明特点。

Images of women were a recurrent subject matter in my early works and for this reason I was given the label of a painter of female figures. I can say that I like this subject, but I am not obsessed with it and I am not limited to that. This theme is functional to express the creativity.  Some people think that small scale works is also one of my main characteristics, but in reality this is not my distinctive feature. I think the size of the work is determined by the pictorial subject.

小麻雀对于我而言是一种自喻，希望能和相伴的人能好好倾诉，没有隔阂。我很喜欢这种小鸟，觉得它们让人怜爱，小小的身体很脆弱，灵魂却很纯净。小时候捡到过垂死的小麻雀，生命在一个儿童手中瞬间流走其实是一种残忍又奇特的感觉，或许鸟儿真的是一生爱自由，死也很决绝，所以我才想好好画下它们生的时候的样子。

The little sparrow is a metaphor representing the self. I hope that I can talk to people with no barrier. I like sparrow very much, I think they are cute birds, with a fragile body and pure soul. When I was a child, I caught a dying little sparrow. It is a cruel and strange feeling that life is flowing away in the hands of a child. Maybe the birds really love freedom but death is also an tough movement so I wanted to draw well their existential condition.

之前正巧看了一部英剧叫《梅尔罗斯》，有些感触，觉得人生就是一辈子在沉沦和救赎间不断抗争、努力生活的一个过程，很多人经受的痛苦都不一样，没有大小之分，只是别人无法感同身受，只有自救才是唯一的道路，我没有经历像男主角那样不堪的痛苦，但我也有我难以控诉的无奈。

I happened to watch an English drama called Patrick Melrose . I have some feelings that life is a process of constant struggle and hard work between sinking and redemption for a lifetime. The pain people have experienced is different and can’t be judged in size. Others can't feel the same and self-rescue is the only way. I have not experienced the pain as a man, but I also have the helplessness that I can't complain.

该剧改编自爱德华·圣·奥宾同名自传小说五部曲中的一部。

Patrick Melrose, who was born in the rich home ,

dedicated his life to expose the glitz and the hypocrisy of contemporary British high society. 

The play was adapted from one of the five episodes of the autobiographical novel of Edward St. Aubin.

如同《红楼梦》里描述的那样，我非常害怕物是人非，害怕死亡，无法接受自己的不完美和缺陷，但是每遇到问题又会懦弱逃避，但是人得自己成全自己，我以绘画的方式把美好事物在心目中的样子保留或再现，也作为一种与自己的和解。

As described in "Dream of Red Chamber", I am very afraid that people changing, afraid of death, and unable to accept my imperfections and defects. I escaped when I face problems every time. The necessity to fulfill the self is a very natural need: I paint to keep and reproduce the good things in my mind and this also represents a reconciliation with myself.

Leonardo Da Vinci's the Last Supper

我喜欢的艺术家有很多，画家里像巴尔蒂斯、马蒂斯、葛饰北斋等，有些大师的经典作品我也非常喜欢。

I have many favorite artists, such as Balthus, Matisse, Katsushika Hokusai and so on. I love many classic works from great masters. 

达芬奇的《最后的晚餐》，这张画是我觉得永远也看不够的，它可以说是我心目中认可的对画面结构平衡美的追求所能达到的极限，不管是远距离欣赏构图，还是近距离细细回味局部，或者是放任目光流动去感知画面人物的情绪，这件作品都是无与伦比的。

Da Vinci's "The Last Supper" is a painting to be contemplated: it embodies the achievement of perfection in the pursuit of the balance of the pictorial. We can look at it from distance or very closely, we can let the eyes flow on the surface of the painting and can we grasp the emotions of the characters. This is a master piece. 

葛饰北斋属于那种"比你有才还比你勤奋"的人，他真的很高产，作品画面完满但不过分，线条精简，准确生动。他拥有非凡的想象力，作品题材多样。我在他身上吸收到的是虽然画的是具象内容，但是可以进行抽象意味的处理。

Katsushika Hokusai is very diligent and he works harder than the others. He is very productive also in terms of artistic activity: his works are perfectly executed and never redundant. The lines are simple and accurate. He has extraordinary imagination and engages in diverse themes. What I absorbed from his works is that although the painting is concrete, it can be imbued with abstract connotations.

我很欣赏导演韦斯安德森的电影美学，他是继巴尔蒂斯之后在画面切入视角上对我很大影响的人，巴尔蒂斯的作品有很强的舞台视角张力，韦斯安德森用电影镜头将生存的三维空间投射在舞台式平面上，镜头画面构图同样极具平衡美感，他还有一个很令人折服的地方，就是对画面中装饰效果的把控，而且非常善于运用颜色讲述情节之外的情绪，这是很值得借鉴的。

I really admire the film aesthetics of director Wes Anderson. He is a man who influenced me a lot from the perspective of Balthus. Balthus's work has a strong tension on the stage, while Wes Anderson used a movie lens to project the three-dimensional space of life on the stage plane. The composition of the lens is also balanced and the decorative effects are very accurate. He is very good at using colors to convey the emotions outside the plot.

我觉得我最擅长的还是画画，现在就想把这个事情老老实实做好。所谓"艺术家"是当你做好这些，别人承认了以后给的称谓，我觉得自己现在就是个画画的人。不过如果说还有什么别的想做的，我其实挺希望早点酝酿出好文本，再画一些能体现我绘画风格的绘本出来。

I think I am very good at drawing, and I want to focus on it. The so-called "artist" is a title that people give to you. I feel that I am now just a painter instead of an artist. However, if there is anything else that I want to do, I actually hope that I can make a good book illustrations writing the text and doing the drawing afterwards.

Shaun Tan’s work Arrival. 

Shaun Tan grew up in Perth, Western Australia, 

loved painting from in high school. 

He graduated from the Department of Art and the Department of English Literature at the University of Washington. His illustration book works have won many international awards.

之前和出版社合作画过几本儿童绘本，觉得之前画的还是受限制太多，所以不算满意。前一段时间被一位资深绘本编辑推荐了一位创作者，作品很不错，是澳大利亚华裔陈志勇的作品——每本都很好。他的作品内容上文学意味很强，画面镜头感也很好，我非常喜欢这种感觉的绘本作品。

I have worked with a publishing house for children book. I felt that the previous paintings are still subject to too many restrictions, which I am not satisfied with. Chen Zhiyong, an Australian Chinese who was recommended by a senior illustration book editor recently, is very good. All his works are good. His work has a strong literary meaning. I really like this kind of picture book.

我认为艺术作品是非常需要走进公众的，但是公众的审美标准又是非常多元的，所以艺术作品要走进多元的公众视野里是个很复杂且具有挑战性的事情，而且还是需要多方面长期努力的艰难任务。

I think that art works are very much needed to get closer the public, while the public's aesthetic standards are diverse. Therefore, it is a complicated and challenging thing for art works to enter a diverse public view, and it is a long-term mission.

Sun Jing's works seem to depict scenes from everyday life. 

Pink meat pads and tiny open toes of little cats make audience feeling curious and interested.  

至于艺术和大众该建立怎样的联系和交流，我觉得19世纪到20世纪初期，以巴黎为中心的的欧洲艺术界当时那种开放、热烈的氛围就非常好，公众有态度，讨论热烈，艺术家们百花齐放，大家相互影响，又彼此抗争，不断努力，也不停进步，真是一个美好的时代，这是值得我们学习的。

As for the connection and exchange between art and the public, I think that the open and warm atmosphere of the European art world in Paris between the 19th century and the 20th century was very good. The public discussion was vibrant. It was a wonderful time for artists to interact with each other and to exchange ideas even from confrontation. It was a wonderful time, which is worth learning.

我的作品是希望能被大众接受和认同的，这是出于我创作的初衷——我创作的出发点是关于生活和生命，如果普通观众看见我的作品完全没感觉，那是和我的初衷背离的。我的创作是反观自身，提炼并再现生命发展过程中呈现的普通但真诚的美好，希望别人能在欣赏我的作品时获得短暂的安宁。

I hope my work will be accepted and recognized by the public, because of my pure and authentic intention. My starting point is life. If the audience does not feel anything unique after seeing my works, this is in contrast with my original intention. My creation is to present ordinary and sincere thing by reflecting upon myself and life. I hope that others can enjoy a short peace of mind while looking at my work.
