Everything begins with a line. A line identifies a direction, divides a space, joins distant points; as children start to explore the magic of leaving marks on a piece of paper (or on a wall, or on any available surface), lines are the first traces; so as many (if not all) artistic creations begin with lines, drawn to remember, or to imagine. A line is the core of any human written language.When joined together in a linked spiral, lines are at the very basic of every living creature, in all the elegance and mystery of the DNA; lines are everywhere to be found, so ubiquitous in our daily lives that most of the time they go unnoticed.Li Jiarui pays homage to lines bringing them to the foreground, making them the main characters of his artistic creations. His lines have life of their own, unleashing their power and potential to the fullest, forcing the viewers to notice them, and reminding them of their fundamental importance in our word.
